|| SA VIDYA YA VIMUKTAYE ||

ll सा विद्या या विमुक्तये ll

This is the motto of the D. T. S. S. College, which is written at the entrance of the College. Banasthali Vidyapith  and University of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh also has the same motto.
The source of "sa vidya ya vimuktaye" is Vishnu Purana 1.19.41:

Verse:

tat-karma yan-na bhandaaya
saa vidhyaa yaa vimuktaye;
aayaa saayaa param karma
vidyaa-anyaa shilpa naipu Nam

Meaning:
Those acts alone which help one to avoid bondage are the rightful/righteous acts and that learning alone which leads one to release is real knowledge or vidya.
All other acts end up only in fatigue and all other learning is a mere exhibition of skill in arts
which means Education is that which has Liberation as its aim or Knowledge is that which liberates.

विद्या
:
Generally we call vidya to everything which gives knowledge. There are many types of vidyas which we can learn in this world. Among these, one is Adhyatma vidya. And according to the scriptures “Adhyatma vidya” alone liberates the human being from this materialistic world. One can get Mukti from this world, because of knowledge & experience of the Adhyatma vidya i.e. spiritual knowledge only.
If we take liberation as its aim, then education will mean only Adhyatma vidya. And all other vidyas will be of no use for spiritual upliftment of the Soul. This clearly means a person who is not literate in the materialistic world, or who has not attended the so called schools or colleges, which gives education for livelihood, he also can attain the mukti and this is very true. Because, in this world we can see the enlightened souls, purest souls who have acquired the paramoccha gyan on the basis of their purity & bhakti of the Supreme One, and many of them have not attended any school or college.
Mukti :
The meaning of getting “Mukti” is not dying, but getting true knowledge of Atman & Paramatman. It is like waking up from a dream. Because after getting Mukti a human being knows that everything we experience in this world is like a dream & nothing is true, except the Soul(jeev/aatmaa) and Brahma(shiv/parmaatmaa). Everything is Mitthyaa. And so, I am different from what I feel or think now in this world. I am Aatman & not what I am called by everybody.

The person who is
mukta, is called the “Enlightened One” Aatmasaakshaatkaari.  That means He perceives this world as a play or a dream. He fully knows that this sharer/deh is not me, I am Atman. Like in a dream nobody can do anything to me because nobody knows me, who I am. Dream is an illusion. In our dream anything can happen anywhere & we are present everywhere, we know everything, we are saakshi of every moment in the dream, because it is our dream. Likewise in this world also what we experience is our own experience. "Pindi Te Brahmaandi" Pind experiences only what is his feelings & nothing else like we experience in a dream. Each one's life is special for that pind. Experiences of two persons are never the same. Each & every person thinks differently. "Pinde Pinde matirbhinnaa " Each person has got different mati. It is a long process for a pind to achieve mukti as our saints say the pind has to undergo 84 lacs of births for mukti. That is why we have to try for mukti in this very birth. Because only nardeh and no-other body can try for mukti.

Simple Meaning Of Mukti :

When we are awake from a dream we understand that we were watching a dream in our sleep. And nothing has happened as seen in the dream. It was my illusion. In the dream, I was thinking all (which is happening there) as a real. I was experiencing all that with attachment, but now I’m awake from that illusion & now I can understand that I am different from what I was in my dream. That’s why whatever I had experienced in the dream was everything false & I understand now that nothing has happened to me.

In the same way what we experience here in this world is not happening to me because I am very different from what I’m experiencing here as myself. This body, my name, my family, my status, my education, my colour, my looks, my habits, my home…..all these things are not mine. I am very different from all these things. I am
Atman which is bound in this deh. When this deh will be perished / dead all these things will disappear & only I (the Aatman) will remain.

Atman has to try to come out or to be free from this deh without any harm to this body that is called mukti. This is an exact meaning of mukti. When the Atman comes out of this deh without any damage to it, it is mukti from this world. He can have the knowledge of all Brahmand that means he can have gyan of everything like divine. He will be totally blissful, all pervading, and omnipotent. All the God’s adjectives can be put before his name. Atmagyani saints are all mukta, as they have seen their own Atman out of their body in this very birth, as we see ourselves in the mirror. But here that body same like him though looks same like him, it doesn’t have hunger, thirst, feelings etc… gunas like our body. And it is like in front photo, it doesn’t show it’s back. It can be seen anywhere and everywhere. It can be seen in his shatru as well as in his friends, in animals or in any padaartha. It doesn’t have to walk anywhere. It can go anywhere without walking.

If man / human being has got this capacity to see the
Atman out of his body (Aatmasaakshaatkaar) & be free from all bondages, then why not try for the same, in this very birth?

Attaining Mukti :
Trying to get mukti is not everybody’s cup of tea. According to our ancient granthas, each soul tries to go upwards from its first birth on this universe. And we all know that it is said that we have to pass from each yoni to get this Human Body i.e. Nardeh. To achieve Mukti, one has to be totally pure i.e. Purnashuddha. That means the soul which doesn’t have a slight ansh of Gunas. It has to be Trigunarahit for being mukta.
Our soul has gathered so many layers of Shadripus and Trigunas i.e. Kaam, Krodh, Lobh, Moh, Mad, Matsar and Sattva, Raja, Tama. In this birth we have to be pure from these nine Ripus. And one biggest shatru of mukti is Ahamkaar. We have to get rid of this Ahamkaar, then our Aham will become Soham. Then only we can attain the Mukti. And this is very difficult without true & pure Bhakti. Through Bhakti all these big shatrus get melted away and the Chitta of the Bhakta gets Shuddha / Pavitra. Then the chitta can become the abode of all great virtues.
Mukti is to get our small mind merged in to the Supreme Mind.
But when can it happen? As for merging, the ingredients of the two should be the same i.e. pure then only the two of them will totally merged in to one another. For that we have to be clean and pure i. e. without these nine Ripus and Ahamkaar i.e. Purnashuddha.
To make it happen, the soul should crave for the highest values in life. The education should help man to achieve higher values every time. Then only it will help Man to be free from the bondage or for liberation.
In the words of great seer Osho, “What is liberation? A journey to the heights, going higher and higher, transcending oneself day after day. A journey to loftier heights is real learning, knowledge.”  Further he says… “ The race for coming first cannot liberate anyone. There are some basic reasons for this. The first thing is, one who joins that race remains in conflict and in tension; he has begun to fight. He is creating enmities with others. One who creates enmity cannot remain free from it; he is bound to it. Only he who is a friend to all can become liberated. And only he who is not in competition with anybody can become a friend to all.”  (Citation : page no. 4 & 5 of Chapter 5, in the book ‘Revolution in Education’ by Osho in Osho Online Library http://www.osho.com/library/)

Easiest Way For Attaining Mukti :

Haa Janma Aahe Bhakti Karanyaacha
Haa Janma Aahe Mukti Milavanyaacha
Haa Janma Naahi Punhaa….. (Marathi)

Bhakti is the easiest way towards mukti. The person who does bhakti becomes pure minded.
Mind has the power or potential to pure itself when it comes into contact with God. When mind comes in contact with God, with feelings, it is out of the effect of time & space. Time and space doesn’t affect the mind & body each time when it comes in contact with God with love. See the persons, who love God, they look younger than others. His mind also is truly pure. That means he /she skips the time in his/her life by contacting God the Parmaatman with love. This is a magic mantra to be young.  But my dear friends for that we must have a pure heart. Then only it CAN happen. You can also see the Yogis & Bhaktas, how young they look. We can never make-out the age of Yogis & true Bhaktas i.e. Saints.

Purity of mind & happiness go hand in hand. If you read “Healing with Food by Anjali Mukherji” she is also of the same opinion. She talks about the happinrss thus “Cleansing of mind is as important as cleansing of the body. When you are able to do that you can be truly happy.” (p.303, Healing with Food by Anjali Mukherji)

In the words of the great bhakta Bhakivedanta Prabhupada, “The real disease is in the heart. If the mind is cleansed, a person cannot be harmed by material disease. To cleanse the mind and heart from all misconceptions, one should take to this chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. This is both easy and beneficial. By chanting the name of the Lord, one is immediately freed the blazing fire of material existence. (p.28, Spiritual Innovators, ed by Ira Rifkin (source: p.68, The Nectar of Instruction.))

The great Management Guru of this century, Prof. Arindam Chaudhary in his book “Count Your Chicken Before They Hatch” praises Lord Krishna & Mahatma Gandhi for their teachings. See p.177 to p.192 of this book.

“The best way to enjoy Divine Bliss was to develop Devotion (Bhakti) which could be perfected by intense practice, driving away the impurities in the mind and enshrining God’s form therein.” (P.170, Devotion leads to God realization 6.12, The Hindu Speaks on Religious Values)

From these quotes and above explanation we can understand the true Vidya is that education which aims at liberation.

So dear friends are you ready to take the first step towards the true education, which aims at liberation. Being pure at heart and soul by simple and pure bhakti i.e. loving only ONE form of GOD whole heartedly, which will definitely lead you to love for all with pure heart and at the end to liberation?

Mundaka Upanishad: It has an interesting beginning. Shaunaka Rishi approaches Acharya Angira, the perceiver of this Upanishad and asks ‘Pray ! teach me some such subject by knowing which all the branches of Knowledge become known. In reply the Acharya says that knowledge is of two types, Para (higher) and Apara (lower). It is the former which leads to liberation and self realisation. A quotable quote of this Upanishad is ‘Sa vidya ya vimuktaye’ - education is that which has liberation as its aim.

The source of "sa vidya ya vimuktaye" is Vishnu Purana 1.19.41, not the Mundaka Upanishad.

Thanks Uma! Yes we can try for the Moksha here only!!
For that u have to enter the spiritual path, by finding your Sadguru. Rather, if you desire earnestly for your Sadguru, He / She only will find you and attract you towards Him / Her.
